Healthcare Management Student Association

Membership in the Healthcare Management Student Association is open to students enrolled in the degree or Certificate programs of the Department of Health Policy and Management. This provides students interested in health services administration with opportunities to enhance their knowledge of effective leadership skills in healthcare organizations and to develop their professional networks within the healthcare community.

The objectives of the Healthcare Management Student Association include:

• Providing a vehicle for constructive student involvement, recognition, and representation in the profession of health services administration.
• Providing an opportunity for students to meet with local and regional health services executives to enhance academic and career opportunities.
• Establishing congruence between graduate and professional continuing educational activities to foster a skillful and sensitive approach to health services administration.
• Providing faculty and students in health services administration with a forum for professional dialogue.

The Healthcare Management Student Association holds monthly meetings during the regular academic year that include a reception for students, faculty and distinguished guests, and a current topic in health services administration presented by a local healthcare executive.

Additionally, the Healthcare Management Student Association, through the Department of Health Policy and Management, is an affiliate of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Higher Education Network, which provides numerous resources for students, including the ACHE annual Congress.

The Western Florida Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives is the local ACHE chapter for the Tampa Bay area (http://wfc.ache.org), and the Healthcare Management Student Association frequently welcomes distinguished speakers from the Chapter. Members of the USF Healthcare Management Student Association are also encouraged to join and participate in educational and networking events hosted by the ACHE Western Florida Chapter.
