Kelli McCormack Brown has a Master of Science and Education in Public Health from the University of Toledo, a Ph.D. in Health Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. Before joining the faculty of the College of Public Health in 1996, she was Department Chairperson at Illinois State University, Department of Health Sciences from 1994 - 96, and a faculty member at Western Illinois University from 1987 - 94.
Dr. McCormack Brown's research interests include school and community partnerships, prevention marketing, technology applications health education, and oral health of children and youth. She is currently a Co-Investigator in the Florida Prevention Research Center, Community-Based Prevention Marketing: Building Local Capacity for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. She was recently the principal investigator for Florida's statewide social marketing campaign, Florida Cares for Women, to increase breast and cervical cancer screening utilization, and is working with Seminole Indian women of Florida in developing culturally appropriate breast and cervical cancer materials. She recently was the PI of a nationwide, randomly selected sample of health educators regarding their Internet use, and motivators and barriers toward Internet use. In addition to her scientific publications, Jones and Bartlett recently published her latest book, Health and Wellness, 6th edition and the first edition of Physical Activity & Health: An Interactive Approach.
Dr. McCormack Brown is active in several professional organizations. She is a Past President of Eta Sigma Gamma (the National Professional Health Education Honorary), and was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association for Health Education and the American School Health Association. She is a reviewer for the Journal of Health Education and the International Electronic Journal of Health Education, as well as the Co-Editor of the Teaching Columns for the Social Marketing Quarterly. Dr. McCormack Brown is also an active member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's invited working group on defining Health Education in the 21st century, was recently named a fellow of the American School Health Association and the American Association for Health Education, is a past recipient of the American Association for Health Education's Mabel Lee Award for early career achievements, and recently received the 1999 Distinguished Service Award at University of South Florida and Eta Sigma Gamma's Distinguished Service Award in October 2000.
Dr. McCormack Brown has taught Foundations of Health Education as both a web-enhanced and web-based course, as well as Introduction to Social Marketing, Community Health Education, Emerging Technology in Health Education, and Social and Behavioral Science Applied to Public Health.
