Ecuador - El Reventador Volcano - November 8-12, 2002

On November 3, 2002, El Reventador Volcano erupted about 60 miles Northeast of Quito, Ecuador, sending gases and ash nine miles high. The eruption forced the closure of Quito’s international airport, and led President Gustavo Noboa to declare a state of emergency in four provinces affected by the volcanic eruption and falling ash.

The Global CDMHA Disaster Response Team traveled to the affected area working with Civil Defense authorities to observe the command and control structure of the disaster operation. A review of pre-disaster mitigation measures and planning procedures were also conducted. View a Power Point presentation illustrating our Disaster Response Team’s activities in Ecuador.
