  • Doctoral student, Don Kurtyka, received notification that he was the recipient of the Dempster 2006 NP Doctoral Dissertation Research Grant for $2000 from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation for his research entitled: The effects of a structured adherence intervention on patient adherence to HIV antiretroviral  medications and responses to treatment.
  • Dr. Judy Karshmer, Sarah Cobb, Chris Olney, Kelly Stamp, and Sue Hartranft had the honor of conducting a symposium at the Sigma Theta Tau 17th Annual International Congress on July 19, 2006 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They spoke about the unique nursing research residency, which is a novel program by USF in collaboration with four area hospitals. This symposium sparked international interest in the nursing research residency for its benefits both to the sponsoring university as well as to the collaborating hospitals.
  • Dr. Janie Canty-Mitchell, along with co-authors from the University of  Wisconsin-Madison and Indiana University, co-authored the article “Evaluating Content Validity and Test-Retest Reliability of the Children’s Health Risk Behavior Scale,” in the recent issue of the journal Public Health Nursing, 23 (4), 366-372.
  • Instructor, Linda Blasen, ARNP,  presented at the University of Colorado’s Primary Care Conference last week:

  • Dr. Mary Evans has been appointed as a reviewer for the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
  • Dr. Linda Moody was selected to serve on the NIH-NIAMS Special Emphasis Grants Review Panel.

  • They gave a poster presentation, “Pilot Study to Test the Face Validity of the English Version of the Japanese Self-Evaluation Scale on Role Model Behaviors for Nursing Faculty and Faculty Attributes Questionnaire” at the Sigma Theta Tau International 17th International Nursing Research Congress Focusing on Evidence-Based Nursing.
  • Dr.  Adrienne Berarducci was recently elected President Elect of Florida Nurses Association District 20.
  • Dr. Adrienne Berarducci also attended the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) conference last month in Grapevine, Texas and presented Wellness Strategies: The Post Menopausal Woman at Risk for Osteoporosis.
  • Dr. Adrienne Berarducci recently published:
