Masters students will enjoy an in depth practice curriculum, as well as an opportunity for creative interdisciplinary collaboration. This cutting edge Clinical Nurse Leader program promises an experience for the masters prepared nurse to facilitate change in the health care environment. Coursework is designed to prepare students to affect positive patient outcomes by leading individualized, evidence-based, effective care to patients and families. Unique to the program is a CNL residency program at health care facilities that prepare the student to work collaboratively with other health care professionals. The 36 credit hour program includes advanced clinical experiences and courses designed to prepare the student for leading a health care team.
Role of the Clinical Nurse Leader
The CNL is a leader in the health care delivery system across all settings in which health care is delivered. The CNL assumes accountability for healthcare outcomes for a specific group of clients within a unit or setting through the assimilation and application of research-based information to design, implement, and evaluate client plans of care. The CNL is a provider and a manager of care at the point of care to individuals and cohorts. The CNL designs, implements, and evaluates client care by coordinating, delegating and supervising the care provided by the health care team, including licensed nurses, technicians and other health professionals. Disclaimer
Past experience has proven that new nursing students are more successful if they begin the program with an orientation. Therefore, students accepted to any program at the College of Nursing are required to attend a new student orientation. This is the final step in the application and acceptance process and it cannot be waived or postponed.
Accepted students should not make final plans for travel, studying abroad, or other activities that may interfere with attendance at the mandatory orientation. In addition, students are encouraged to clear attendance at the mandatory orientation with their current professor if they are enrolled in a class at the time of orientation.
Students who are unable to attend the orientation will not be permitted to enter the program that semester and may apply again to be accepted for a later term.
