Admission Requirements |
|
Entering students are expected to have some understanding of the physical and life sciences, or an extensive background in physical sciences or engineering. This should be reflected in the number and types of courses taken and the grades in these courses. Admission requirements normally include one year of biology, one year of physics, one year of inorganic chemistry, one year of organic chemistry, a course in physical chemistry, and one year of mathematics including integral and differential calculus. At the discretion of the NCC or Department, students with deficiencies in these areas may be admitted. Such deficiencies must be eliminated prior to taking the qualifying examination. Students who seek admission as first-time graduate students to the Ph.D. Program in Medical Sciences of the College of Medicine are required to meet the minimal System-wide (State University System of Florida) and University-wide (University of South Florida) entrance requirements. In addition, applicants to the NCC should have earned a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 (out of a possible 4.0) while working for the baccalaureate degree, with a minimum grade point average of 3.4 in the sciences. Applicants should have a total quantitative-verbal (General) Graduate Record Examination score of 1200 or higher. However, if an applicant takes an advanced (Subject) test on the GRE and achieves a score of 600 or higher, and achieves a score of 1100 or higher on the quantitative-verbal test, the minimum score of 1200 may be waived under special circumstances.
