The Alzheimer's Research Laboratory conducts basic research on a major neurodegenerative disease causing loss of memory and other mental functions later in life. The laboratory primarily focuses on a mouse model of the human condition, which carries specific genetic mutations that we know can cause Alzheimer's disease. The laboratory has demonstrated that these mice display memory loss and brain pathology similar to that seen in human patients. In response to these findings, we have begun studying potential therapeutics, including vaccination against the disease and administration of several pharmacological agents that we believe will allow for a potential cure for this debilitating disease.
