USF Health Center for Advanced Clinical Learning

The Center for Advanced Clinical Learning is a technologically advanced teaching and training facility that simulates actual patient care, both ambulatory and in-patient, and provides medical students with the hands-on clinical skills experience in a safe, controlled environment. The Center’s 12 patient encounter rooms are similar to the examination rooms medical students will eventually use as physicians. However, these exam rooms are equipped to digitally record voice and video, which enables faculty to access and review the patient-student encounter. In addition, simulators are central to learning at the Center. Medical students can practice specific procedures on full bodied simulators, so they are better prepared to perform them in a real-life situation. Medical students can also learn cardiac examination skills by using a high-fidelity cardiac simulator. By combining the use of live standardized patients and high-tech simulators, the Center helps produce medical students who are not only technically proficient but also have the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to effectively treat patients.
