Dr. Boyce, Hugh F. Culverhouse Chair for Esophagology, is Director of the Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Esophageal and Swallowing Disorders and Professor of Medicine and Radiology. He is an internationally recognized esophagologist who graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and also completed a Master of Science at Baylor Postgraduate School. Dr. Boyce served in the United States Army for 20 years and served for 9 years as Chief of Gastroenterology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. From 1973 to 1974 he served as President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. While serving as Director of the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition at the University of South Florida from 1975 to 1990 he established and became director of the Joy McCann Culverhouse Center for Swallowing Disorders in 1987. In 1991 he was appointed Hugh F. Culverhouse Endowed Chair for Esophageal Disorders. From 1991-1994 he served as the President of the 8^th World Congress of Endoscopy.

Dr. Boyce has authored 220 publications in the form of journal articles, abstracts, books, and chapters in books. He has directed 33 postgraduate education courses for practicing gastroenterologists.
