Tampa General Hospital

Tampa General HospitalTampa General Hospital has served as a primary teaching facility for U.S.F.'s College of Medicine since 1971. West central Florida's only level 1 trauma center, TGH also serves as a specialty referral center for the region. The hospital recently completed an expansion that included a new emergency room and increase bed capacity to approximately 1,000. Located on the waterfront in scenic downtown Tampa, TGH provides an ideal environment for resident training. The patient mix on general internal medicine wards is approximately 40% indigent and 60% funded (Medicare/Medicaid/Private insurance). Residents on average perform 40-50% of their inpatient wards and consult months at TGH.

 

James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital

James A. Haley Veterans Administration HospitalAffilitated with the U.S.F. College of Medicine since its founding, the James A. Haley VA hospital has 327 acute care beds and the busiest outpatient clinic system of any VA facility in the country. The patient population provides a wide variety of pathology, including a large number of combat veterans from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Located across the street from the main campus, the hospital has convenient access to all of the College of Medicine's facilites including clinics and main library. Residents on average perform 40-50% of their inpatient wards and consult months at the VA.

 

H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Institute

Moffitt Cancer Treatment CenterFounded in 1986, the Moffitt Cancer Center has rapidly grown into one of the premier cancer treatment facilities in the country. A National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center that has been named one of the top ten cancer centers in the United States, Moffit is on the cutting edge of cancer research and treatment. Boasting a diverse patient population, world-renowned faculty and superb clinical and research facilties, Moffitt offers a truly unique training environment. Residents on average will rotate through Moffitt 1 to 2 times during their residency.
