Dr. Jose Montero took part in the Fox 13's series, Your Turn with Kathy Fountain on April 31, discussing the H1N1 2009 swine flu.
Dr. Beata Casanas taught the STD Intensive Course for the Southeast Region STD/HIV Prevention Training Center at the Miami-Dade County Health Department. SEPTC recently celebrated 20 years of STD training in Florida.
Dr. Casanas was keynote speaker of the Tuberculosis Control & Prevention Program for the World TB Day 2009 Conference at Miami Heart Institute on May 15 and received an award "In appreciation of outstanding contribution to the Miami-Dade County Health Department's TB Program"
Of note, WHO published the 2009 annual report on global tuberculosis control, showing that HIV-related TB deaths have increased.
