Biographical Sketch

Dr. Somboonwit is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. After completion her fellowship in infectious diseases in 2003, she joined the Polk County Health Department. While she remained active in teaching as a clinical faculty, she was responsible for HIV care in a large rural HIV clinic in central Florida. She joined University of South Florida full time in 2006. In her current position as an Associate Professor of Medicine, she also serves as Communicable Disease Director and Clinical Research Director for the Florida Department of Health - Hillsborough County.

Dr. Somboonwit is active in teaching. She currently serves as faculty of the Florida AIDS Education and Teaching Center; and she co-chairs the Scholarly Concentration in Research for Medical Students. She is a member of the Gold Humanism Society and a lifetime member of Leadership Florida. Most recently Dr. Somboonwit was elected to faculty membership of the Alpha Omega Alpha society.
