Division's Mission:
The mission of the Division of Geriatric Medicine is to prepare health professionals to provide high quality patient care for the heterogeneous elderly population from various settings and encourage excellence in medical practice, learning and inquiry.
Division's Vision:
The vision statement describes the organization's purpose in the context of its environment. The Division of Geriatric Medicine's vision is to:
Promote and provide high quality care and a comprehensive scope of services for the heterogeneous elderly population.
Provide a solid foundation for those wishing to receive experience in or pursuing a career, which involves care of elderly patients.
Become a leader in the provision of care to elderly patients in a wide range of settings.
Conduct valuable research that can be used to improve the care provided to elderly patients.
Serve as a leader in providing medical care to elderly patients as it integrates with other programs within the university system involving this segment of the population.
Be recognized as experts in the provision of care to elderly patients within the community.
Become a leader/center of excellence in the area of end-of-life care and palliative medicine.
Collaborate with other disciplines while maximizing the model of interdisciplinary care for elderly persons.
Create a supportive environment in which educators/researches in geriatric medicine can perform successfully.

Goals:
The goal of the USF Geriatric Fellowship is to train academic leaders with skills in clinical geriatrics and education, or administration. Fellows will develop expertise in the following areas:
Clinical care of elderly patients in the acute hospital, the geriatric assessment unit, nursing home, and subacute unit.
- The structure and economics of the health care delivery system, including long-term care and home care.
- Preventive geriatrics
- Geriatric Assessment
- Interdisciplinary care and practice
- Diseases of the aged
- The geriatric syndromes
- Geriatric Pharmacology
- Mental health and aging, including treatment of common mental health problems in the aged.
- Ethical problems of the elderly
- Nursing home care
- Rehabilitation
- End of life care
- Organization financing and continuity of care for older persons
- Research methods and critical literature review
