Geriatric Psychiatry

  • Fellows can do a one month rotation during their elective month in  geriatric psychiatry seeing patients with affective disturbance or behavioral problems related to dementia.

Patient Safety Center Falls Clinic @ JAHVA

  • Fellows work with Physical Therapists specializing in gait assessment and fall prevention
  • They learn a variety of skills, including: 
    • Fall prevention program development and implementation
    • Medication safety program development and implementation
    • Injury prevention and patient safety quality monitoring systems: development and benchmarking
    • Improving safe patient transitions from hospital to home
    • JCAHO Patient Safety accreditation initiatives, including Patient Safety Goals for Hospital, Nursing Home, and Home Health Care settings

Rheumatology Clinic

  • Fellows can participate in a one month rotation during their elective month to provide specialty care for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, crystalline-induced arthritis (gout and pseudogout), osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and related pain syndromes, and other autoimmune diseases.

PT/OT Services at JAHVA

A one month rotation is also available for the fellows who are interested Occupational Therapy Services
  • Occupational Therapy Services assess and treat individuals with physical illness or injury, psychiatric or emotional disorders, congenital or developmental learning disabilities, or aging. Occupational Therapists evaluate the client's functional ability in the area of self-care, provide training to increase independence in activities of daily living, assess need for adaptive equipment, and assist clients to adjust to altered mental, social, and physical status.

Kinesiotherapy Services @ JAHVA

Kinesiotherapy Services provide assessments, and preventive fitness programs to prevent regression and complications in the stable client. The treatment programs are designed to reverse or minimize debilitation, complications, and enhance the functional capacity of the geriatric, and extended care population. Other Special Services provided by Kinesiotherapy: Wheelchair/seating mobility clinic, driver training, preservation amputation care treatment clinic to prevent ulceration in the diabetic client, therapeutic pool, and basic mobility skills.    www.akta.org.
