Welcome from the Geriatric Division Chief, Vincent Perron, MD and the Geriatric Program Director, Claudia Beghe’, MD, FACP.
Thanks for visiting our website. We hope you will find it interesting and will want to know more by contacting us personally. As introduction:
The USF Division of Geriatric Medicine supports comprehensive clinical, educational and research programs.
Ambulatory geriatric care is provided at the USF Clinics and at USF's South Tampa Center-next to Tampa General Hospital.
Acute Hospital Care and Palliative Care are offered at Tampa General Hospital.
Division Members serve as Medical Directors at several Nursing Homes in the community.
Comprehensive Geriatric Services are also offered at the James A. Haley VA, which hosts also a nationally recognized Home Health Program.
An ACGME accredited Geriatric Fellowship Program has been operational since the 1980s. Graduates of the Program have been extremely successful in fulfilling both academic and purely clinical roles. In addition to the geriatric faculty, trainees have exposure to basic and clinical researchers at the VA Safety Center, Baird Center, Suncoast Alzheimer’s and Gerontology Center, Lifepath Hospice and the Geriatric Oncology Program at the Moffitt Cancer Center.
The Division is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and contributes extensively to Morning Reports, Noon Conferences and Grand Rounds.
The Faculty is also extensively involved in medical students education, especially at the third year level.
Continuing Medical Education is provided through weekly Geriatric Grand Rounds, where CMEs and CNEs are offered free of charge.
Division members are actively involved with the American Geriatric Society, the Ammerican Medical Directors Association and respective Florida chapters. Through these organizations and other avenues they contribute to education programs locally, regionally, and nationally.
Dr. Perron recently founded the Tampa Bay Geriatric Society, to foster education and communication among the geriatricians practicing in the area.
