The course is designed to aid students in understanding of legal issues in biotechology with respect to laws and regulations that affect patenting and licensing. Cases of patent applications and patented inventions (successful and unsuccessful) related to medical devices, diagnostics and therapies will be analyzed and discussed. Instructors include patent attorneys, scientists, and entrepreneurs.

Advanced Interdisciplinary Seminar in Public Health--Research Ethics

The focus of this course is to learn how to conduct clinical and social & behavioral research in an ethical manner. The regulatory codes are discussed, and the informed consent form that meets regulatory requirements is demonstration. Students will complete an institutional review board (IRB) application.

Bi-annual Medical Ethics Short Course at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC
