OVERVIEW

 

   The Division was founded in 1972 by the late Samuel C.

Bukantz, MD (1911 – 2008).  Richard F. Lockey, MD, 

      became the director of the Division in 1983.  The Division

        currently has 28 faculty members, some of whom enjoy joint

  appointments with other USF Colleges, Departments or

          Divisions.  The Division offers a broad-based, accredited, 2

                 or 3 year fellowship program which began in 1976.

The goals of the Division are as follow:

 

• Provide optimal care to patients with allergic and immunologic diseases at the University of South Florida College of Medicine Clinics, Tampa General Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, All Children's Hospital, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center Hospital and in various outpatient clinics staffed by the Division faculty.
• Provide state-of-the-art learning experience in the field of allergy and immunology to the internal medicine and pediatric residents and students who rotate through the Division.
• Provide comprehensive exposure in clinical allergy and immunology to subspecialty residents and maintain accreditation.
• Conduct innovative basic and clinical research in immunology and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present basic and clinical research papers at the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, American Thoracic Society, Clinical Immunology Society, European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, European Thoracic Society, World Allergy Organization and meetings of similar international stature.
• Encourage faculty and residents in allergy and immunology to become active leaders in national and international organizations.
• Collaborate and cooperate with colleagues in basic and clinical research at USF.
• Keep the Division among the ten principal training and research programs throughout the United States and the world.
