Funding Opportunities

First Year Medical Student Summer Stipend Program

USF College of Medicine (COM) students are able to participate in scholarly projects supported by the Scholarly Concentrations Program through the Office of Educational Affairs.  For a period of eight weeks starting May 13, 2011, eligible students will work with COM faculty and affiliate hospitals on their scholarly projects.

In order to qualify for this funding, the 2011 SCP Summer Stipend Application must be completed.

2011 SCP Summer Stipend Application

Within the application, students are asked to present a professionally written scholarly project proposal with well defined outcomes in order to be considered.  The overall goal of the project should address a question pertinent to the student's field of study within the scholarly concentration.  The proposal should clearly delineate the role the project places in this larger context.

ALL PROPOSALS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 10AM ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16TH, 2011.

A signed Letter of Support from the student's mentor must also be emailed to Roberta (Bobby) Collins at rcollins@health.usf.edu . Your application will be considered incomplete without this document.

The process of awarding summer stipends is competitive.  All proposals will be evaluated for scholarly merit and feasibility by a Faculty Review Committee.

In addition, the student will be entering into a good-faith contract with the College of Medicine.  This requires the student to diligently pursue the proposed scholarly project during the coming summer with the intent of gathering sufficient data to submit an abstract and poster presentation of the findings at USF Health Research Day to be held in February 2012.

All students receiving funding must report on their summer accomplishments within the Scholarly Concentrations Program Annual Student Progress Report. This electronic document will be posted on the Scholarly Concentrations Program website (under Forms) and will be due August 15th, 2011.
