The Project Development Cycle

Pre-Project Assessment: before embarking on any project, design or instructional, we begin with a needs analysis. We will find out: what is the desired outcome of the project? Who are the stakeholders? Who will benefit from the project, and who is the audience? What is the objective or message? We will also gather existing content or media for incorporation or reference.

Proposal: A proposal to define and document the project requirements is then tailored to the nature and scope of the project. As such, a "proposal" could range from the formal and complex (e.g., to serve as the foundation for a large-scale instructional design solution) to a simple, informal e-mail confirmation. We strive to balance upfront planning in a way that is appropriate to the project scope and maximizes our efficiency.

Design and Development: Development milestones are tailored to the individual project. We will deliver preliminary versions, "alphas," drafts, etc. whenever appropriate (e.g., printing proofs for approval before final printing).

Implementation, Evaluation, Maintenance: The final stages of the project are also tailored to the individual project. We will anticipate and define these needs during our upfront planning for the project. We may plan to provide or support specialized training of faculty or staff in support of the project. We will consider and help you plan for sustainability of the project deliverable(s). We can also help you plan for and evaluate the project's success or effectiveness.

Consultations

We're also available for brief consultations (normally 1-2 hours in duration) as our schedule allows (e.g., one-on-one training, troubleshooting, micro projects, etc.)

Project Request Questionarre

  • Do you have preferences in style, theme or colors?
  • What are the techinal parameters (e.g., end-user computer systems requirements)?
  • What materials or outside services (e.g., printing) will be needed? What is the funding source?
  • When would you plan to implement the project deliverable(s)?
  • What is the back-up plan if the project can not be completed as requested?
