Methods in Molecular Biology, BCH 6135C, will be offered by the Department of Molecular Medicine during summer session C 2007. The course will begin on Monday, June 11, 2007 and continue for 6 weeks through Friday, July 20, 2007. Students enrolled in the course must be prepared to commit 20 - 25 hours per week for lab/class time.

Prerequisites: Due to the nature of the course, participants must have a reasonable background in molecular biology theory.

Instructor Permission required: Please contact instructor as soon as possible, since a first come first served priority may have to be applied. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. Students outside of the Department of Molecular Medicine should obtain permission from their major professor before requesting a place in the course.

  • Two Hybrid Assays
  • DNA Transfections
  • Luciferase Assays
  • Polymerase Chain Reaction, including RT-PCR
  • Real Time RT-PCR
  • cDNA Cloning
  • RNA Interference
  • SDS PAGE and Western Blotting
  • RNase Protection Assays
  • Mobility Shift Assays

Course Evaluation:

The final grade will be based on attendance and participation, 40%; weekly quizzes, 40%; and bench/lab maintenance, 20%. The honor system that applies to other tests and quizzes at USF will also apply to the quizzes in this course.
