Within Firewall
If you are on a computer running Windows and Internet Explorer within the USF Health firewall, follow the directions below to enable your computer to authenticate directly into SharePoint and avoid multiple authentication prompts when opening Microsoft Office files in your SharePoint Document Libraries. This set-up will require you to add your computer to the Local Intranet Zone under your browser's Internet Options settings.
You will only be prompted the very first time you access SharePoint (https://my.usfhealth.usf.edu) and also once again the very first time you access your MySite (https://mysite.usfhealth.usf.edu). After successfully authenticated to each of these sites, you will not be prompted again for future SharePoint sessions from the computer at which you are working.
- go to your Sharepoint site
- when prompted for your USF Health credentials, preface your User Name with hscnet\ as shown in Figure 1

Outside Firewall
If you are on a computer running Windows and Internet Explorer outside the USF Health firewall, follow the directions below to (1) authenticate into SharePoint and (2) pre-populate the authentication prompt with your credentials when opening Microsoft Office files in your SharePoint Document Libraries. This set-up will require you to add your computer to the Trusted Sites Zone under your browser's Internet Options settings.
You do not need Connectra to access SharePoint from outside the firewall. However, you will need to log in each time you begin a new SharePoint session.
- go to your Sharepoint site
- when prompted for your USF Health credentials, preface your User Name with hscnet\ as shown in Figure 5

Figure 5. Authentication Prompt - Windows XP
- check the "Remember My Password" checkbox
- click the OK button on the Connect to authentication popup window
Note: Unfortunately, users not within the firewall will face additional authentication prompts when requesting Microsoft Office documents stored in SharePoint Document Libraries. This behavior is by design according to Microsoft documentation as Office contains its own layer of authentication. Although users outside the firewall will still be prompted when opening Office document, this configuration process saves the user from retyping credentials by pre-populating the authentication prompt with their login information.
- in your Internet Explorer browser window, click Tools-Internet Options
- in the Internet Options dialog box, select the Security tab (For steps 2, 3, and 4, see Figure 6.)
