My new password doesn't work.

  1. Does your new password have upper-case characters, lower-case or both? The password is case-sensitive, so it matters whether a symbol is upper- or lower-case. Type the password exactly as it was displayed when you retreived it. For upper case characters, don't turn on CAPS LOCK; leave that off and just hold down the Shift key while typing those characters.
  2. Is your CAPS LOCK key on by any chance? This one gets everybody sooner or later. Turn it off and try again.
  3. We have had customers for whom the NUM LOCK key had the same effect; they turned it off and were then able to enter their password. Give it a try.
  4. Make sure you're not inadvertently switching a dollar sign for a capital S, a zero for a capital O, or a 1 for l - that is, a numeral 1 for a lower-case L. Or vice-versa. They look alike to human eyes, but not to the computer. If you have all three kinds of characters, that's at least 24 possible passwords right there. And remember that it makes a difference whether a character is upper- or lower-case.

I got my HSCNet and password, now I need one for Ovid or other Library resources.

Your HSCNet ID and password also work for Ovid and all ther Shimberg Library resources. To access Library resources visit their web page at http://hsc.usf.edu/library/default.html.  When accessing Ovid and other protected resources you will get a login screen that asks you for your ID (the part of your e-mail address before the @ symbol) and password. Type in your HSCNet user ID and password, and away you go.

My HSCNet password works to log in to the network or Outlook Web Access, but not for Library resources.

You would be most likely to have this problem if you change your HSCNet password, and then try right away to log on to a Shimberg Library resource. What's happening is this: your password is the same for both functions, but those resources are seperate systems and it can take a while for them to synchronize. When you change your password on HSCNet, it is eventually synchronized across all systems, but not right away (it could take up to 24 hours, though this is rare). So if you've just changed your password in the last day or two, and it no longer works for for Library resources, try the old password in the meantime. It should be synchronized shortly and the new password will work in both places.
