B.S.: Biomedical Engineering, The Johns Hopkins University, 1986 to 1990.

Research Interests
Our laboratory is interested in oncogenic signal transduction pathways involved in the pathogenesis of lung cancer. The major focus of the lab has been on understanding the role of tyrosine kinase pathways and STAT signaling in lung cancer.

Ongoing projects include (1) characterizing the ability of novel inhibitors of EGFR, Src-family kinases, andStat3 signaling to suppress lung cancer cell growth with accompanying evaluation of downstream signaling pathways, (2) characterizing Stat3 and Stat1 gene expression profiles using Affymetrix gene arrays, (3) development of lung-specific Stat3 knockout mice to evaluate the requirement of Stat3 in tumor initiation and promotion, (4) determining a role for Stat3 signaling in tumor cell invasion/metastasis by examining a direct role of Stat3 in controlling genes involved in cell invasion,

Our lab also has available lung cancer tumors specimens for translational studies. This includes a tissue microarray consisting of approximately 250 NSCLC specimens with accompanying clinical data available for studies evaluating the role of various signaling pathways, a collection of tumor RNA with accompanying clinical data to evaluate prognostic roles of genes, and a collection of fresh frozen specimens available for molecular assays.
